South's Stuglis Named Coach of the Week by Chicago Bears
Now in its twelfth season, the Chicago Bears "Coach of the Week" program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players' football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline, and teamwork. Graduation rate, coaching technique, school and community support, volunteerism, and a coach's contribution to players' long-term success on and off the field are also considered.
According to Stuglis, it's a great honor to be recognized by the Bears, but just as on the field, the Gator success has been a team effort.
"I'm fortunate to be surrounded by outstanding assistant coaches and players that put in the extra effort both on the field and in the classroom," Coach Stuglis said.
With a 59-24 career record at South, Stuglis is the school's winningest football coach. His teams have won at least one game in each of the last five playoffs. Off the gridiron, the Gator team takes time to read to local elementary students and connect with the next generation of student-athletes.
"Really, I think this award coming to a District 155 school just shows the level of excitement we have for each of our four high school programs," Stuglis stated. "The coaches at Cary-Grove, Central and Prairie Ridge are all doing great things with their kids on and off the field as well, and I think it's wonderful that we're all getting the attention that our schools deserve."
The Chicago Bears will donate $1,500 to Crystal Lake South's football program, and Stuglis will be recognized on the field during the December 2 Bears versus Giants game at Soldier Field. He will also be invited to attend a Bears practice and "chalk-talk" with head coach Lovie Smith.
